Chicago: February 2013 amongst top 20 snowiest Feb. after largest snow of season

February 2013 in Chicago has now placed into the top 20 snowiest category after a storm total of 5.4" fell from Tuesday Feb. 26-Wednesday Feb. 27. The 5.4" of snow includes a daily record of 4.8" that fell on Tuesday. The 5.4" of snow that fell places the seasonal total at 18.4", which is still below normal at 8.6". The monthly snowfall amount of 15.5" accounts for 82% of the entire season's snowfall and ties 1988 for the 18th snowiest February on record.

In Rockford, a total of 4.6" fell from Tuesday through Wednesday morning, making this the largest snow event of the season and placing February 2013 as the 5th snowiest February on record. This puts the seasonal total at 25.1" which is 3.7" below normal. 81% of all the snow this season has fallen this month.

The winter storm dumped a general 2-7 inches with locally higher amounts. The higher snow amounts occurred near the lake and areas west and north of the city. Gurnee with 12 inches was the highest snow total from this event. Below is a list of some of the area snow totals:
