Chicago Cubs tickets pre-sale tradition ends this year

The Chicago Cubs will be hosting the very last pre-sale of regular season tickets to fans this year. On March 8, fans will be able to buy their tickets at Wrigley Field before online and phone sale orders for tickets are taken, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Wrigley Field's box office will open at 8 a.m. for fans hoping to avoid the surcharges that go along with online and phone orders for tickets. Fans will have two hours to purchase tickets before online sales begin.

The team's vice president of sales and partnerships told reporters, "Given our planned restoration schedule at Wrigley Field and fans' increased use of online ticket purchasing, we don’t anticipate offering this advance in-person purchase opportunity moving forward."

In past years, Chicago Cubs fans have used this opportunity to beat ticket brokers to choice seats at Wrigley Field. Fans can still buy advance tickets through the Chicago Cubs website on March 6 if they are willing to pay extra for the privilege.

This is not the first change announced for the Chicago Cubs. The team is building a new spring training facility in Arizona, and there are plans for more renovations to Wrigley Field as well.
