For this week's Firkin Friday feature, we're thrilled to offer a cask ale direct from Scotland! The intensely flavored but incredibly smooth Engineer’s Reserve is Harviestoun's fabulous Old Engine Oil ramped up to 9% ABV. Three hop varieties - grassy Fuggles, spicy East Kent Goldings and fruity Galena - are combined with roast barley providing a roasted, toasted coffee character. Enjoy a snifter poured for you directly from the cask, and take time to savor the earthy, hop fruity flavors of this spectacularly dark, rich beer.

10:00 am ♦ Ticket Sales for the 2014 KBS Release Parties
Founders Brewing Co. is happy to announce that they’re doing something a bit different for their release of Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) this year. The beer will be available starting April 1 across the brewery’s distribution footprint, but visitors to and residents of Grand Rapids will be able to enjoy it March 18–22.
Bottles of KBS available for pickup in the Founders taproom will be released using a pre-ticketed reservation process on EventBrite. Bottles can be reserved beginning on Saturday, March 1, at 11am EST, and they will be available for pickup March 18–22. Ticket proceeds will go toward Grand Rapids Whitewater.
What’s new this year is Founders has decided to open up the release so that people coming to Grand Rapids for KBS can enjoy all of Beer City USA. Fifteen Founders-supporting craft-beer-centric bars and restaurants in the Grand Rapids area are each tapping a keg of KBS on a day and time of their choosing between March 18 and 21. KBS Week will culminate with the Founders taproom release party, where KBS will be poured all day on Saturday, March 22.
Ten area hotels will be offering KBS week packages—including discounted room rates, limited edition gear in rooms and more—with information available on the Experience Grand Rapids website. For full KBS Week details, head to

Well, it's that time of year, when no one in their right mind would host an outdoor party because it's the dead of winter and what the hell are you thinking? We're thinking this is the worst winter we can remember and god dammit we're gonna have some fun outside if it means freezing our asses off. Lucky for us/everyone, we're inviting some kick-ass bands for this snow down throw down we're calling Music Frozen Dancing and there's always the comfort of good booze to warm that chilly heiny. Goose Island Beer Co. will be serving beers to keep you warm throughout the day. There will be a chili buffet provided by Bite Cafe, hot coffee from the fine folks at Dark Matter, plenty of winter activities (indoors and outs), as well as a few of our favorite rock bands that are sure to set ol Western & Cortez ablaze. Gates will open at noon and costs you ZERO DOLLAR$ to get in. We'll be planning some late-night shenanigans, as well, so stay tuned and get ready have some fun in the sun. The event is all ages, so bring the kids and scar them for life.

Two Brothers Brewery is Sheffield’s March brewery of the month. To celebrate, Sheffield’s beer directors got together with the folks at Two Brothers and came up with our very own collaboration brew Cottonwood Export.
We’ll be tapping the brew on Saturday, and will be serving it up all month long for $4 along with many other Two Brother drafts for the same price.

Come to Merkle's to be part of the first of many ChiKegOlympics! This is a Passionately Pink® event and every cent raised will be donated to the Chicagoland area branch of Susan G. Komen®, the largest and most effective organization for breast cancer research, advocacy and awareness in the country!
8 teams of 5 or more elite imbibers will compete in 7 games to be crowned champions of the 2014 Winter ChiKegOlympics!
The entry fee is $20 per player and includes an official ChiKegOlympics shirt, an appetizer of your choice and an exclusive player wristband entitling you to $10 pitchers of select local craft beers.
The top three teams will win fabulous prizes donated by businesses from around Chicago!
In accordance with Illinois Happy Hour Law, all traditional "drinking games" will have the rules adjusted so that players can, if they so choose, play the entire event with no compulsory drinking, so be sure to pace yourselves as this will be a full day of hardcore swilling sports.
Players and spectators will also have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets to win fabulous prizes sponsored by local bars, restaurants and brewers. Every cent raised will go to support breast cancer research so be sure to bring your cheering section to sample from Merkle's impressive 160 bottle deep list of North American beers!
