Monday, May 5

Mail orders for Great Taste of the Midwest Tickets
Great Taste of the Midwest is August 9th at Olin Park, overlooking Lake Minona in Madison, WI. It's one of the biggest and oldest beer festivals in America, and back for its 28th edition. Over 100 brewers will on hand with over 1,000 samples in a four-hour afternoon session, put on by the Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild. Tickets for this year's GToMW are $60. An allotment has gone on sale Sunday at beer bars and brewpubs around Madison, but Monday is your chance to get tickets by mail. Here are the details from the Great Taste website:

Mail orders that are postmarked on Monday May 5th will be processed via a lottery system. Any mail orders postmarked after May 5th are unlikely to be filled. There is a limit of 2 tickets per household for mail orders. You must include a self-addressed stamped envelope along with a check or money order. MAIL ORDERS POSTMARKED BEFORE MAY 5TH WILL BE REJECTED

Our Executive Chefs have created a south of the border inspired four course menu paired with the amazing beers of Church Street Brewing, each paired with a Mexican beer. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. and is priced at $50.00 per person, plus tax (not including gratuity). In honor of the rare appearance of Crime & Punishment, dress up as your favorite villain or good guy and you could take home cool prizes. Costume judging at 8:00 PM. (Cinco de Mayo = bonus points scored for Mexican villains or good guys!)

Hopped Up Broads has developed programs for both the consumer and staff. We work with bars to create programs specific to their needs, be it to educate servers and bartenders or to create a fun, hands on program for their everyday customer.
The next Beer School is… ALE vs LAGER! Time for a showdown! Tickets are only $10 so bring a friend, too! We've got plenty of space in the Wreck Room were class is being held. See you there!

Mark your calendars, Iron Maiden Fans! WOB - Naperville is having a Trooper Beer Event. Trooper is a Golden Ale at 4.8% abv, brewed by Robinsons in England with Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. It will be on tap starting at 6:00 pm and you will be able to get a pint of this delicious beer and a glass to take home for just $10.00!

7:00 - 8:30 pm ♦ Beer Passport Series: Bell's

Bell's is the Beer of the Month at Mrs. Murphy's and Murphy's Bleachers in May. We will be kicking off the month at Mrs. Murphy's with a variety of Bell's beers on tap. Two Hearted will be available in both draft and firkin (taste the difference). We will also have a rare Bourbon Barrel Aged Kalamazoo Stout, Quinannan Falls Special Lager, Smitten Golden Rye Pale, and everyone's summer favorite, Oberon. There will be samplers and a special food pairing available from 7-8:30 for $15. You can skip the pairing and just stop by for the beer. Bell's representatives will be on site. Reservations are recommended.

Wednesday, May 7

5:00 pm ♦ The Beer Revolution at Xoco

We're hosting Kevin Kuzlik from Revolution Brewing at our Clark Street location to give you free beer (and because fair is fair, we'll give you free food to go along with it). Following that, we embark on a full month of Revolution madness, an entire menu of Revolution beers paired with new, seasonal additions to Xoco's already extremely beer-friendly menu, both at Clark St. and our soon-to-open the Wicker Park location at 1471 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The first DryHop Brewers/Lincoln Park Zoo collaboration debuts with the release of I'm Not a Raccoon, a 6.0% Saison.
$1 from each pint sold will go toward the Lincoln Park Zoo's Red Panda Wish List Fund.
I'm Not a Raccoon is inspired by ingredients from the Red Panda's diet and the money raised from the pints sold at DryHop will help purchase the $4,500 worth of bamboo needed yearly to feed this animal at the zoo.
Also, the zoo is generously donating one set of two (2) complimentary VIP tickets to Zoo-ologie, the Auxiliary Board of Lincoln Park Zoo's signature fundraiser on May 17. We will draw the name of a lucky winner that evening and contact them directly to coordinate pickup. We will also pour I'm Not a Raccoon at Zoo-ologie's VIP Lounge on the 17th.

We will have some amazing beers, including from 3 Floyds Cimmerian Sabertooth Beserker and Space Station Middle Finger, and from Goose Island Beer Co.; Old Man Grumpy, and some Dry-Hopped brews with Gene Probasco's experimental varieties. The first hour is for members of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, then open to the public starting at 8PM.

We have committed to doing 1 takeover a month and for May we will be Featuring Tighthead Brewing Company from Mundelein, IL. We will have 5 amazing brews from this great local brewery. Come out and meet Bruce Dir, the owner of Tighthead and the man behind the beer.

5:00 - 7:00 pm ♦ Two Brothers Beer Tasting at Franklin Tap

The Franklin Tap will hold a Two Brothers Brewing Company event. Brewery representative Paul Wonak will be on site to discuss the featured beer: Pale Frank, a custom brew made exclusively for Franklin Tap. Sidekick, Dog Days, and White Monarch will also be sampled. Full size pours of the four brews will be $5 (11 a.m.-midnight). For every Two Brothers draft purchased, a raffle ticket will be given for a chance to win two tickets to the American Beer Classic at Soldier Field on Saturday, May 10. The raffle will be held at 7 p.m. Franklin Tap will offer a free round-trip shuttle to and from Soldier Field for the American Beer Classic (VIP and Session One). The shuttle will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Grab a flight, make some guesses and win a prize! There will be 6 total beers in the flight. It is your task to guess whether each beer is either an Ale or a Lager. Then, for bonus points, guess the name and correct style of each beer in front of you. Prizes will be awarded for the top performers. All participants will receive a complimentary pint glass while supplies last!
