This weekend, all are invited to join in the City of Chicago's 16th annual celebration of Halloween. This year's celebration of “Chicagoween” will start when the ghosts and goblins ascend upon the city on Friday, October 25 at high noon and turn Daley Plaza (Washington and Dearborn) into Franken Plaza. The hauntings will continue until Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 6 p.m. when the ghosts and goblins must return to the underworld.
The three-day festival will continue the tradition of the Midnight Circus throughout the weekend and will feature the Demon Duo. The annual Monster Bash will commence on Saturday, October 26, 2013, and features the Kids Costume Contest that will be hosted by Mayor Spookenberger of the Midnight Circus and NBC 5 Entertainment Reporter Lee Ann Trotter. The Kid's Costume Contest is open to children ages 12 and under and includes the following categories: scariest, funniest and most original. There will also be a best costume category for children under 24 months. Children should line up to participate at 11:30 am with the contest beginning at 12:15 pm. Prize packages include a pair of tickets to WICKED, beginning October 30 at the Oriental Theatre.
The festival also includes free hay rides, trick or treating, a wicked sing-along, a Friday film, arts and crafts, and much more. Franken Plaza will include an appearance by the Radio Disney AM 1300 Road Crew and Food Trucks that will provide tasty goodies just east of the plaza on Dearborn.
Franken Plaza is presented by the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and sponsored by Chicago Transit Authority, Radio Disney AM 1300 Chicago and 104.3 KHITS. Franken Plaza is open Friday, noon-7:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
