Chicago braces for heat wave this week; triple digit heat indices possible

The Midwest and East Coast brace for a heat wave this week as an upper level ridge amplifies and strengthens. For the Chicago area, temperatures this week will range from the lower to mid 90s. The combination of this heat with high humidity levels (dewpoints in the 60s/70s) will result in max heat indices in the upper 90s to lower 100s. Overnight low are expected to dip only into the lower to middle 70s.

There are isolated chances for thunderstorms Monday through Thursday. A greater chance for showers and thunderstorms comes Friday. That's when a cold front will move across the region late Friday which will provide relief from the heat and humidity.
