2010 Chicago Bears preview

The good news is the Chicago Bears play in the NFL North and that division looks to be up fro grabs. The bad news is I am unconvinced they have improved their team. Sure Mike Martz was brought in to liven up the offense, and sure he has done very well with very average QB’s in the past. I don’t think the Bears have the right mix yet, they should be better than they were in 2009, but that isn’t saying a whole lot.

What kind of Contracts of did the 2010 Chicago Bears draftees sign?

Sure the Chicago Bears had but five draft picks in the 2010 NFL draft. They had just those five picks because their front office has made a habit of trading high round draft picks away. There first pick came in 2010 came in the third round, and while they have traded many picks away their front office has done something that has never been done before.

2010 NFL Draft in review: Chicago Bears

The last team review to do, and a team that did not have a first or second round pick. The Chicago Bears did not have much to work with, and we have to figure that into how they conducted their draft. Granted their front office has foolishly traded away a number of picks over the last two years. So their first 2010 pick came at 75, and they added a play maker to their secondary in Safety Major Wright. He has good instincts and good character. His coverage skills are a little lax but the Bears feel he fits well at Free Safety.

Chicago Bears are on the verge of a huge mistake

Label this story under why failing NFL organizations should fire their front office/head coaching staffs before it is too late. For every member of the Bears front office, and coaching staff what happens in 2011 does not matter anymore. They must sell out everything to win in 2010, or they are all going to get fired. With that in mind, and given the fact that for the second straight year they do not have a draft pick in the first or second rounds on the NFL draft. Now they want to trade up in the 2010 draft to select Safety Nate Allen of South Florida.

Fix the Franchise : Chicago Bears edition

The problem with the Chicago Bears seem to lie with the people making the decisions. Since making the Super Bowl, it seems that this team has been in free fall, the offense and defense have been turned over to a couple of Detroit Lion rejects, and for the second straight year this team has no first or second round draft picks. They would love to sign WR Brandon Marshall, but since he was signed to a First Round tender, they don't have the pick to give up to get him. The Bears are in a very sad state.

Chicago Bears needs heading into 2010

What the Chicago Bears could use most is a couple of draft picks in the first and second rounds. 2010 will mark the second straight year in which their first pick will come via the third round. That is due to questionable trades made, that got their Director of Pro Personnel fired.

Chicago Bears continue to shake things up

To say that the Chicago Bears are a mess it somewhat of an understatement. Following the 2008 season Head Coach Lovie Smith fired his Defensive coaches in an effort to save his own job, and following the 2009 season he fired the offensive coaches, again in an effort to save his own job. Now the team has fired its Director of Pro Personnel, Booby DePaul, who has been with the team for nine seasons.

2009 NFL season in review: Chicago Bears

I hate to break it to everyone out here but this entire organization is a total and complete mess. Everyone from the General Manager to the guy who fills up the water bottles needs to be fired, and they need to start completely over. They have been fleeced by other teams and for the second straight year have no first or second round draft picks. This is not a recipe for success.

Mike Martz hired to run Bears offense

So the Chicago Bears finally got a guy willing to take over their defense, knowing full well that they must have a successful season or everyone gets fired. Really though Mike Martz is a guy that has been trying to get back into the league after a falling out with the Detroit Lions following the 2007 season. Many considered Martz to only be with the Lions as a stepping stone towards another Head Coaching position, but his success there cannot be overlooked. This a job with a lot of risk, and Martz is probably the one guy with enough offensive know how to actually pull it off.

The Worst Job in the NFL

The Chicago Bears cannot seem to find a new Offensive Coordinator. It may have something to do with the poor state of their team, a notoriously hard to work with QB, a head coach that is about to get fired, and a miserable set of circumstance that make success hard to come by. Things for the Bears could not be any worse; in fact the y traded their 2010 second round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a guy who died. Talk about your bad situations. While many would say being on the staff of the Detroit Lions would be the worst NFL job, but the Bears inability to find a new Offensive Coordinator seems to suggest that the Bears job is actually the worse.

Chicago Bears shake up coaching staff

Call it the Chicago Bears post season massacre; even though Head Coach Lovie Smith’s job is safe for now, the Bears have shaken up their coaching staff. Smith now faces a 2010 NFL season where he must win or get fired. More to the point Smith is going to generate a deep playoff run, or lose his job. On top of that it seems the Bears are in a very bad position moving forward. After the end of the 2009 season they fired six coaches on the offensive side of the ball including offensive coordinator Rod Turner.

Chicago Bears draft cabinet is pretty bare

The Chicago Bears are a very disappointing 4-7 and headed towards a season where they will not make the playoffs, and where they will be left to rebuild for the 2010 season. The problem with that is the Bears will not have a first round draft pick for the second year in a row, and barring a trade they will not have a second round pick either

Jay Cutler gets contract extension

Clearly Jay Cutler has made the Chicago Bears better, but he really hasn’t proven that he is the reason they are as improved yet. With that in mind the decision by the Bears to extend him two years for a pretty significant amount of money seems a little premature. Let us not forget that Cutler’s old team, with Chicago’s old QB are 6-0 and headed toward the Super Bowl, while it seems the Bears are destined for a wild card playoff game they might not be able to win. The simple fact here it seems the Bears jumped the gun a little by signing this deal.

Chicago Bears lose much more than a game

Not only did the Chicago Bears lose to the Green Bay Packers last night, not only did their new franchise QB throw 4 interceptions, but the Bears lost one of heir most valuable players in Linebacker Brain Urlacher. Urlacher dislocated his right wrist, and will need season ending surgery to repair it. While he has yet to be placed on the Injured Reserve list, the moment the team does Urlacher will be gone for the rest of the 2009 campaign.
