Chicago Bears draft cabinet is pretty bare

The Chicago Bears are a very disappointing 4-7 and headed towards a season where they will not make the playoffs, and where they will be left to rebuild for the 2010 season. The problem with that is the Bears will not have a first round draft pick for the second year in a row, and barring a trade they will not have a second round pick either.

Their 2010 first rounder will go to Denver to complete the Jay Cutler trade, and their second rounder will go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to complete the trade for DE Gaines Adams.

Now it looks like the Bears are destined to finish 7-9 and in third place in the NFC North. They will be a team that has significant needs, but lack the draft picks to address those needs.

Currently it seems that the Bears may have overpaid for Cutler, and that overpayment is going to cost them huge in the 2010 draft. Luckily with the specter of an uncapped year many of the smaller market, worse off teams may be willing to trade out of high first and second round picks, but that is going to cost the Bears future picks in future drafts.

Since it seems likely that some form of rookie pay scale is going to come into existence as part of the next Collective Bargaining Agreement, these picks could be more valuable to the smaller market, worse off NFL clubs of today. However with no First or second rounders the Bears have little to no bargaining chips.
