Less blue skies and more chances for showers and storms are headed in our direction as we make our way into the weekend.
As Friday starts a surface low is expected to move into southern Wisconsin. That will bring the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms to northern Illinois with the best chance for rain coming near the Wisconsin state line.
Going into the afternoon we should see more sun and an increase in southerly winds. That combination should allow temperatures to rise into the low 80s and with more humidity the atmosphere will become more unstable. While there is a chance for thunderstorms Friday afternoon a better chance comes Friday evening.
The increased potential for scattered thunderstorms Friday evening is thanks to a cold front that will sweep through the region. That front will be drug our way by the low from earlier in the day. There is a chance that some storms Friday evening could reach severe limits. The Storm Prediction Center has put the region under a slight risk for severe storms and our biggest threat will be strong damaging winds.
The cold front may not make it too far south as another low is pushed our direction Saturday. Heavy rain potential exists with showers and some thunderstorms, especially south of I-80, during the day.
