Chicago area girl killed after Obama spoke on Chicago's South Side about guns

According to CBS News, 18-year-old Janay McFarlane was shot and killed by gunfire near Chicago just hours after her younger sister had heard President Barack Obama speak at Hyde Park Career Academy where the victim had previously attended school.

McFarlane was walking to a store with a man in suburban North Chicago - about a 35 minute drive north of Chicago - when a drive-by shot her in the head with a bullet that was intended for the person she was walking with at the time.

Had things been different for the young lady, she very likely would have been with her younger sister in Chicago instead, listening to President Barack Obama’s speech earlier in the day at her former school, Hyde Park Academy, where she was a student before becoming pregnant and transferring to a charter school. Janay McFarlane attended Hyde Park Career Academy for three years before becoming pregnant.

Her younger sister Destiny who attends the school and heard Obama speak there on Friday was too distraught to speak to reporters. There have been no arrests yet in the case but two persons are being questioned.

It was previously reported that in Chicago, one person was murdered and three others were shot just hours after Obama spoke on Chicago’s South Side as well.
