They are all ages, sizes, colors and breeds. Some of them are the cats and dogs that have waited a bit longer to find a new home because they are older or different and others just need an extra spotlight to get adopted. Each Saturday, we’ll feature pets at various shelters and rescues that are looking for a home.
Today we’re looking at some special cats as we celebrate National Cat Day, we’ll also look at some great dogs that need a home as we wrap up Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month and we'll take a sneak peak at a few senior pets needing homes as we approach Adopt-A-Senior Pet month in November. Please cross-post, Tweet and pass along these animals and we’ll see if we can help one or more of them find a home.
Senior - Dijon is an FIV positive boy who started out his shelter life as semi-feral kitty. He’s made great progress thanks to the volunteers in the socialization room at Tree House. Dijon loves to relax in a basket, listen to music and watch the wildlife from the window. He now lets people pet him and gets along very well with other kitties. As he’s become more confident, Dijon has become this unflappable, easy-going fellow. Cats that are FIV positive live long, healthy lives if properly cared for. At Tree House, adoption fees are waved for all FIV positive cats.
Boo Radley is quite the character that came to the shelter when her owner moved and couldn’t take her along. She is talkative, entertaining and loves to get lots of attention. This little girl was a bit too thin when she first came into the shelter, but this sleek, black beauty has filled out nicely with shelter TLC and yummy food. Boo Radley is one of the five cats waiting the longest for a home and her adoption fees are waived through October 31 as part of the Anti-Cruelty Society’s CatPaign.
Senior - Cloe is a sweet, dainty lady who has lived most of her life with a very loving owner. When her owner had to go into hospice care, Cloe was left alone in her home and was eventually rescued and brought to Heartland. She’s around 9 1/2 years old and this sweet cat is really a charmer. She’d love to live out the rest of her golden years with a nice family.
Here are a few of the dogs that are looking for homes this month as we wrap up Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month
Heff and Bunny are an adorable bonded pair found wandering the streets together in Cicero. Bunny is a five-year-old Yorkie-poo and is the playful, loving, easy-going one of the pair. Heff (senior) is a three-legged, eight-year-old and he’s a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix that does warm up to people in due time, but does get nippy when stressed or scared. This pair would do best in a quiet, adult-only home and most likely would fair better in a house than apartment or condo because they do like to bark.
Senior - Fuji is a seven-year-old dog that has been blind since he was two. This sweet fellow has lived with the same family since he was a puppy. Unfortunately, his family recently lost their home and they could no longer keep him. Fuji has just been placed in a foster home for evaluation. For information, email the organization at bombshellbullies@hotmail.com.
Bill is a wonderful Lab mix with tons of energy that just loves to play. He loves people but doesn’t do so well with other dogs and is looking for a home where he could be the only dog. They’ve found at Heartland that this fellow’s personality really shines when he gets to meet people away from the other dogs. Bill is around four-years-old.
Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control
Honor arrived at Chicago Animal Care and Control weighing a skeletal 35 pounds and had nine puppies in tow. She has since raised her pups and recovered and has blossomed into a great dog who just needs a loving home. Honor is a bit cautious at first in new situations, but quickly warms up to people and really needs a patient dog-lover to call her own. She is doing well in training, gets along with select dogs (but may be best as a solo dog) and bonds very tightly to those she trusts.
