Chicago animal rescue community loses inspiration – Trio

Chicago’s animal rescue community has lost an inspiration. Trio, the namesake of the Trio Animal Foundation, died yesterday. In recent month, Trio had increasing health difficulties.

Trio, who was rescued as a four week old puppy, lost one of her legs after being used as bait in a dog fight. The puppy was taken in by a rescue group before being adopted by Sue Naiden and named Trio. Naiden, who had volunteered at shelters and rescues for many years, formed the Trio Animal Foundation (TAF) several years ago to help pay for the medical care of homeless pets.

Trio the dog turned 10 earlier this summer. Her inspiration has helped the organization help a staggering amount of animals in the Chicago-area receive the medical treatment they need for a second chance at a new home and family. TAF rescues animals from open admission shelters, arrange for and pays for veterinary care and then works with the shelters and rescues that would focus on finding the animals a home.

In an interview earlier this year, Jill Cahr, vice president of the organization, said TAF has helped over 1,000 animals and worked with over 30 shelters and rescues in the few short years they've been in existence. That is an amazing legacy for a one special dog. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue and the whole Trio Animal Foundation Family.
