Chicago and Illinois 'Military Appreciation' month

During the month of May, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) will celebrate its third annual Military Appreciation Month. The CDA, along with the United Service Organization of Illinois (USO) will present an array of events and programs at Midway and O'Hare airports to show their appreciation for all they have done, overseas and here at home. Military members we also receive special discounts at airport concessionaires throughout the month of May.

Information tables will be staffed by USO workers to provider military member and their families of services available to them at O'Hare airport past security checkpoints at varies terminals. Passengers are encouraged to fill out the "Thank A Hero" note cards that will be available at both O'Hare and Midway USO booths.

Travelers Aid Chicago will be on hand on Tuesday, May 13 from 1p.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to host a coffee social and Q&A sessions.

Every Thursday this month from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Fridays, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Midway and in Terminal 1 at O'Hare, and on May 9, 16, 24 and 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at both airports a variety of live entertainment will be provided from from high school drill teams to blues and jazz bands, and Samba dancers.

All Illinois residents are encouraged to help thank and show support for the troops by helping the USO break the Guinness World Record for the number of signatures on a flag. The USO will need to capture more than 33,274 signatures on the Every Moment Counts flag by May 31, 2014.
