The Chicago Air & Water Show, being held on August 15 – 16, 2009, is one of Chicago's most popular events in the Windy City. According the the Explore Chicago website, The Chicago Air & Water Show is the largest spectator event in the United States. About 2.2 million people attend the air and water show during the weekend, for the excitement of the aerobatics, flight formations, stunts in the water, and more.
The Chicago Air & Water Show which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008, is the longest running free admission air and water exhibition in the U.S., According to Explore Chicago, attendance at the show is about 2.2 spectators annually, making it one of the largest spectator events in the world. The lakefront of Lake Michigan in Chicago becomes a huge community of spectators peering into the sky to see the amazing feats by top flight teams.
The Air and Water Show portions of the event are now being combined into one continuous show. The hours of the show are 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The free event takes place at North Avenue Beach, 1600 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago, IL 60610. The Mayor's Office of Special Events recommends public transportation to avoid being caught in traffic.

Spectators can bring blankets, chairs and coolers to the beach for comfort while watching the Air and Water Show.
Items that will be prohibited from being brought into the festival grounds include alcoholic beverages, BBQ grills, fireworks, explosives, weapons, illegal substances, pop up tents, picnic umbrellas, flag poles and pets.
