If you're like me and were a fan of either the Human Target or Pushing Daisies or somehow Golden Boy, you know Chi McBride is one of the best character actors out there. He's one of those actors that can do anything and excel at what he's doing even with a more lackluster show in his last series for CBS, Golden Boy. His curse though is when he's on a show it's either cancellation bound or gets two seasons and done if you're lucky. Which is a shame because Chi McBride is one of my personal favorite actors out there. Needless to say when I heard he was going to be on CBS's Hawaii Five-O in a recent trailer for the new season, Hawaii Five-O officially became a show to watch for this season. Though from initial reports he was only scheduled as a guest star, Entertainment Weekly having the initial exclusive on this fact but the trailer seems to hint in another direction. Now what direction you ask? Seems like Chi McBride's role in Hawaii Five-O could be much larger than anyone expected.
In seeing the trailer initially pop up while watching another show on CBS, they made a big point to note that Chi McBride is actually joining the series. If he was just going to be a guest star, they'd just say special appearance or something along those lines. This actually surprised me because I don't normally follow any news on CBS's Hawaii Five-O, and Chi McBride being on this series has many people, myself included at least interested in checking out the series on Friday, Sept. 27.
Will Chi McBride though increase interest in the show proper? Will this go over better than CBS's last series with him involved Golden Boy? That will remain to be seen, he's being introduced as part of the old mythology of the series in SWAT Captain Lou Grover. Of course for soon to be new viewers like myself, it'll all be up to Chi McBride to see if we stay interested or not. Old fans of the series already watching will be in for the ride no matter what, now it's time to see if the series will grow in interest on Friday night with the addition of a new character. We'll learn more Sept. 27 as the new season of Hawaii Five-O along with Chi McBride begins on CBS.
(Special Note: I'm including a video of Chi McBride here from his Human Target days, it's a good introduction to showing how cool he is as an actor. I think you'll all get a kick out of this blast from the past moment.)
Special Note 2: This stands a better shot for Chi McBride than CBS's Golden Boy that's for sure, that show was a mess to say the least. Anything will be better than Golden Boy.)
