Chi City Tap Sports Bar Proposed

A Greek-inspired sports bar and restaurant may fill the former Blockbuster Video building at 1595 N. Aurora Road in Naperville. Last week, the Naperville Liquor Commission unanimously voted to send a positive recommendation about the proposed business to the City Council, which will have the final vote on the matter.

The proposed bar and restaurant, called Chi City Tap, would occupy 6,500 square feet at the old Blockbuster site.

Partners Blair Machaj of Naperville and Dimitri Giannakopoulos of Kenosha, Wisconsin, said they plan to offer “upscale bar food with a Greek twist” as well as feature local beers. “We’ll have 24 beers on tap including some of the local brewers like Two Brothers, Solemn Oath and others,” Giannakopoulos stated. “I’ve been in the restaurant business for seven years and this is our first sports bar concept.”

Mayor A. George Pradel told the petitioners he hoped the venture would succeed and would help revive the area and attract new businesses. “We have a lot of empty business sites there and we hope this business will begin to draw others into the area,” he said.

Owners are hoping to have the bar and restaurant open in November.
