Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming is a week-long full-on western celebration featuring living history, arts and crafts and the world’s largest outdoor rodeo. But one of the things not to be missed during the fun and festivities is the first class western art featured in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum’s Western Art Show.
This is the 33rd year of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale. All of the art featured highlights the western way of life and Cheyenne’s frontier past.
Frontier Days themselves were begun in 1897. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum was created in 1985 to make sure the history of that celebration stays alive. The Western Art Show and Sale has become the single largest income contributor to the CFD Old West Museum, contributing over $2.7 million to its operations.
Frontier Days and all of its festivities take place each year during the last week in July. The Western Art Show and Sale kicks off with a private showing the Thursday before, allowing art lovers and museum supporters to bid on the works.
This year over 60 artists from across the west are featured. Works include everything from paintings to sculptures to Navajo weavings. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show runs through July 28th. The CFD Old West Museum is located on the grounds of Frontier Park in Cheyenne.
