Saturday, Jan 12 marked the date of the first Wyoming bout in 2013. In addition, it was the first bout with two Wyoming leagues bouting against each other. The Cheyenne Capidolls, Wyoming's first WFTDA affiliated league, hosted the A'Salt Creek Rollergirls, a WFTDA apprentice league. The leagues have bouted against each other previously, on May 26, 2012 the Capidolls won over the A'Salt Creek Roller Girls 155 to 114.
The Capidolls had a strong start, scoring 50 points in the first two jams alone. In the first jam, Low Down Dirty Shame from the Capidolls scored 20 points. In the second jam Pumpkin from the Capidolls skated a power jam, adding another 30 points to the Dolls lead.
The A'salt Creek Roller Girls gave a good fight and continually added points to the scoreboard, it however was not enough to pull ahead. In the last jam before the half, the Dolls jammer, Boom Boom Becky served two trips to the box, giving a double powerjam to A'salt Creek. Luce Wire, the jammer from A'salt Creek during that two minute period, scored 38 points, minimizing the Capidolls lead to less than one hundred points.
Upon returning from half-time, the A'salt Creek Roller Girls skated strong, and the game became intense and appeared as if it could have gone either way. In jam 38 the Capidolls jammer, Low Down Dirty Shame scored 27 points. Two jams later, her teammate Bisco Fever, scored 24. These two jams brought the bout back in the Cheyenne Capidolls control.
A few jams later the clock ran out and the Cheyenne Capidolls won over the A'salt Creek Roller Girls 371-241. The skaters joined together to dance to the "Cupid Shuffle" after the bout and then gathered with refs, fans, and supporters at Mingles Adult Day Care. Both leagues also gave MVP awards to the opposing team. MVP for the Cheyenne Capidolls was Shockley and the MVP for A'Salt Creek was Luce Wire.
* It should be noted that this was Luce Wire's first bout as a jammer, and she scored the most points in a single jam than any other jammer from either team.
** In this bout under the new rule set, a combined total of three skaters from the leagues were ejected from the game, and another two were only one penalty away from ejection. Edited: Bill Hind Justice emailed me to let me know there is a distinction in terminology of "being ejected" and "fouling out," as one connotates reaching the maximum amount of penalties and one connotates egregious, reckless, negligent, or intentionally dangerous behavior. I am grateful for his input and would like to clarify that these were not ejections from conduct, and I am 99% sure they all had reached the maximum amount of penalties.
The A'Salt Creek Roller Girls will host the Cheyenne Capidolls for a rematch on Saturday, February 9 2013 in a bout entitled, "Return of the Jammer." More information on times, pricing, and more can be found by clicking here. Will the hometown advantage lead the A'salt Creek Roller Girls to a win, or will the Capidolls continue their undefeated status? Stay tuned to find out.
Archived footage of this bout should be available shortly on ColoradoSports.tv.
