An award such as this shows just how far the Impala has come, especially given the dramatic decline of the full-size car market in recent years. Though the industry trend still favors downsizing or smaller cars (mostly due to fuel economy), the new Impala is an impressive addition to a winning Chevy lineup.

Chevy has brought back a classic sedan and made it ten times the car it used to be. It leaves quite a first impression, with its upscale, stylish design complimented by a refined interior. Sleek and sporty, the Impala features an international design theme, one that is at the center of Chevy’s turnaround.

There are three powertrains offered in the Impala. A 3.6 liter V6 making 303 horsepower is at the top, with a pair of 4-cylinders, a 2.5 liter and 2.4 liter. The Ecotec 2.5 liter Inline 4-cylinder utilizes a combination of fuel efficient technologies to make power, including direct injection and continuously variable valve timing. A V8 option is not available on the FWD Impala; The Chevrolet SS 4-door performance sedan is RWD only and a distinct model, in contrast to past options.

Reviews have been encouraging with Consumer Reports giving the ’14 Impala its highest-scoring sedan title. This despite reliability data being unavailable (new car), otherwise it would likely be “recommended” by Consumer Reports.

With sales up over last year, the Impala continues to strengthen the Chevy lineup, along with the success of the Malibu and Cruze models.

The new-look Impala looks to have made some significant strides in reviving the big-car market. Let’s hope that trend continues.
