Detroit is a city of stunning assets: one-of-a-kind art deco skyscrapers, world-class attractions and museums, award-winning hotels and restaurants, and events that draw hundreds of thousands of spectators year after year. When it comes to entertainment, The D delivers to visitors unlike any other city.

One highly anticipated event is the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, which will roll into town May 31-June 2, 2013. Making its return in 2012, after a three-year lull, the event on Belle Isle in downtown Detroit featured races from the cars of the IZOD IndyCar Series, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, and the Pirelli World Challenge Series. This year—and for the first time ever—the Grand Prix is featuring all that and more, with the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit, presented by Quicken Loans, with one race on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The Prix’s high speeds, dramatic races, newly reconfigured 2.35-mile street circuit, and anything-can-happen atmosphere will put you on the edge of your grandstand seat. An event this intense is sure to turn any spectator into a race fan, or at least make you appreciate the tact required to maneuver a racecar around a track at speeds over a hundred miles per hour.

If you’re not glued to the track, you can make a day of strolling around Belle Isle, a 982-acre island in the Detroit River, the largest island park in the nation. Sample selections from various food vendors, entertainment acts on the MotorCity Casino Hotel stage, and interactive activities in the Meijer Family Fun Zone, or simply soak up the scenery with a pair of earplugs. There’s something for everyone to enjoy during Grand Prix weekend, which is why the event’s attendance totals nearly 100,000 for 2007, 2008, and 2012, which created $52 million in economic impact for the region.
