Chevelle and Halestorm will co-headline the Iowa State Fair on Friday. The two hard rock bands will play the fair's Grandstand at 8 p.m. and the show is open to all ages. Chevelle (pictured in left-hand column) has produced seven Top 20 albums, including two that have topped both the Alternative and Hard Rock charts. The band's twelve Top 10 singles include the #1 smashes "Send the Pain Below", "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)", "Face to the Floor", and "Take Out the Gunman". The band released their latest album, entitled La Gárgola, in April.
Co-headliner Halestorm (see slideshow) won a Grammy Award for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" for their 2012 single "Love Bites (So Do I)". The song was the first of two #1 singles ("Freak Like Me" was the second) off of the band's chart-topping second album The Strange Case Of... Altogether, Halestorm has placed five albums/EPs in the Hard Rock Top 20, and they have racked up five Top 10 singles. The band hopes to have their third album ready by the end of this year.
The fair's free stages also have some interesting shows on Friday. Kentucky rockers Black Stone Cherry will perform on the Fairview Stage at 8 p.m. The band is huge in the United Kingdom and has topped the country's Rock chart with their last three albums. While BSC hasn't had a #1 album yet in the U.S., they have managed five Top 20 Rock singles. You can check out the band performing "Blame It on the Boom Boom" at the 2011 Download Festival in the nearby video.
"Glee meets Stomp" vocal group Vocal Trash will perform two shows on the Fairview Stage on Friday. The eco-crusaders perform with recycled street instruments made from hubcaps, trash cans, water cooler bottles, and other "trash". You can catch the Texas-based group at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Salt Lake City 5-piece acoustic country/bluegrass group Ryan Shupe and The RubberBand will play the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday. The band has played a number of music festivals across the U.S. and even made an appearance on the ABC show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
Country singer Eric Paslay released his self-titled debut album in February. The album peaked at #4 on the Country chart and produced the Top 20 singles "Friday Night" and "Song About a Girl". Paslay has also co-written #1 songs for Jake Owen, Love and Theft, and the Eli Young Band. Paslay will perform at the Susan Knapp Amphitheater at 8 p.m. on Friday.
The Beatles tribute band Yesterday will take the Bud Light Stage at 8 p.m. on Friday. The band has performed on five continents and has been featured on numerous television shows.
