Chess in the homeschool curriculum raises math, science skills by 15%

Game playing, especially chess, could be included in the curriculum for every homeschooler as a legitimate skill building activity.  Chess Champion, Jeffrey Flynn has been working with homeschool students in the Phoenix area for several years to impart the wisdom of the game.  He cites incredible benefits for children who learn to play chess:

"A recent study showed that children who played chess for 1 year: -demonstrated 15% improvement in Math and Science
-twice improvement in Reading and Math
-increased standardized scores (11.2% Reading) (18.6% Math)".

Many other countries, such as China and India, emphasize the Game of Kings as a tool for  intellectual prowess.  Armenia has recently made the board game mandatory in its schools for seven to nine year olds

The game of skill and concentration not only improves academic abilities, but also is used for character development, logical thinking and strategizing, and responsibility development.

There are several homeschool chess clubs in the Phoenix area which meet to talk about the game and practice for tournament competition.

Get your game on and learn some chess.  It just might give you enough advantage in academic skills and test scores that your college scholarship opportunities are greater than you might think.
