Canadian high pressure will build over the Middle Atlantic region today with cold temperatures as highs are only expected to reach the mid to perhaps upper 30s after morning lows in the mid to upper 20s. There will be plenty of sunshine today, but thermometer readings will be running about 15 degrees below seasonal averages of 50 degrees. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will develop to our south and move up the coast. The majority of the precipitation from this system will impact southeast Virginia, southern Maryland, and coastal Maryland and Delaware; however, some precipitation will likely make its way northward to Annapolis and Washington. Depending on the arrival of the moisture, temperatures may be cold enough at the surface to produce a brief period of mixed precipitation on Friday. As the storm brings in milder air from the Atlantic, all precipitation will change over to rain. Rain showers will continue through Friday night and into Saturday morning, with the heaviest rain to the south and the east. Temperatures will be chilly on Friday with the falling rain, but readings will be above freezing with highs in the lower 40s. As the storm pulls away from the coast on Saturday, a milder pattern will become established. The period Sunday through Tuesday will feature sunshine and moderating temperatures with highs in the upper 40s on Sunday and the upper 50s on Monday and Tuesday. Looking ahead to later next week, a cold front will produce rain showers on Wednesday with colder temperatures as highs drop from the upper 50s on Tuesday to the upper 40s on Wednesday. A storm system may impact the region later next week with rain and/or snow.

Winds on Friday will come out of the north at 10 to 15 knots with gusts over 20 knots and waves from 1 to 3 feet. Visibility may be reduced in rain and fog on Friday. Marine information is provided as general guidance. Boaters should always stay tuned to the latest forecasts and advisories from the National Weather Service.
