The main weather features on the morning weather map include a center of high pressure off the southeast Atlantic coast. The clockwise flow around the high is creating a southerly flow of air over the southeast and Mid-Atlantic states today. Enhancing the flow from the south is an area of low pressure in the nation's mid-section and its counter-clockwise flow. Consequently, temperatures will be warming to 60 degrees today around the bay region, perhaps a few degrees warmer over the southern bay but a few degrees cooler right along the bay shore. Saturday will be even milder with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. A frontal system will approach the Middle Atlantic states from the northwest on Sunday. This slow-moving front will become nearly stationary and will produce considerable cloudiness over the region on Saturday. As the front inches closer to the coast on Sunday, low pressure will move along the front and produce widespread rain showers and even some thundershowers. At the same time, mild air ahead of the front will surge northward and push the mercury into the lower 70s on Sunday. Next week, colder and drier air behind the front will move into the region and more seasonable temperatures will return.
