The new cast of “Dancing with the Stars” won’t be revealed until Wednesday morning on “GMA,” but on Sept. 3, the early morning talk show promoted the big announcement by chatting with seasoned dance pros Cheryl Burke and Karina Smirnoff. They talked candidly about "DWTS" cast rumors and their dream partners.
After 16 seasons of producing headline-making stars like Bristol Palin and Kim Kardashian, the pressure is on to come up with an exciting cast when season 17 kicks off in a few weeks. Karina Smirnoff stated on Tuesday that her partner’s first name is Ryan. That could mean Ryan Gosling, who began his career as a child star on Disney Channel’s “Mickey Mouse Club,” or Ryan Reynolds from “Two Guys and a Girl” and numerous feature films. However, insiders are leaning towards swimmer Ryan Lochte, the 11-time Olympic medalist who went on to star in his own reality series titled “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?” ABC let it be known last season that the network was interested in casting him on "DWTS," but it never panned out. Could it be Lochte’s turn to take a spin around the ballroom?
Cheryl Burke did not reveal her partner’s name on Tuesday, but did say that this season’s cast was well known. “This is the first time I didn’t have to Google anyone,” she stated. Karina added enthusiastically, “It is the best cast we’ve had!” Burke did say that her dream partner is soccer legend David Beckham. However, he’s unavailable. According to the Daily Record, Beckham just landed a film role opposite Taylor Swift in the big budget spy movie titled “The Secret Service.”
Per Entertainment Weekly, other recent “Dancing with the Stars” cast rumors include Valerie Harper, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer but may be nearing remission, Leah Remini and/or Elizabeth Berkley from “Saved By the Bell,” Amber Riley from “Glee,” NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, R&B singer Christina Millian, Snooki Polizzi from “The Jersey Shore,” Abby Lee Miller from “Dance Moms,” and John Stamos or Jamie Lee Curtis. At one point, it was rumored that Paula Dean was joining “Dancing with the Stars,” but she recently put that one to rest. Other rumored names include former “Survivor” star Eddie Fox and former Red Sox star Jason Varitek.
As far as the pro dancers, Max Chmerkovskiy and Derek Hough are in. Louis Van Amstel is out. Kym Johnson is not coming back in order to take another “amazing work opportunity” back home in Australia. According to The Stir at Café Mom, Cheryl Burke, Peta Murgatroyd, Sharna Burgess, and Karina Smirnoff are returning. It also looks like Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman will once again bicker at the judges’ table.
The new cast of “Dancing with the Stars” will be officially announced on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday, Sept. 4. “DWTS” season 17 premieres on Monday, Sept. 16 on ABC. In the meantime, fans still have to wait and wonder about the new cast. Who would you like to see decked out in sparkly sequins?
