Joshua Strickland, 23, was with his unit on Sept. 21 when he was attacked by a group of enemies. He was undergoing range training when the invasion occurred. Strickland was one of three soldiers besieged. Two other men, including Staff Sgt. Timothy R. McGill, 30, of Ramsey, N.J., and Staff Sgt. Liam J. Nevins, 32 of Denver, Colo., were also killed during the attacks.
Strickland was appointed to Lewis-McChord, Washington's 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group. He is survived by a wife and three children.
