A mother and her former boyfriend were officially charged this week for the 2012 death of a Woodstock toddler, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Jamie Beck, 23, the mother of 17-month-old Kaylee Rayne Johnson, called the authorities on Oct. 14, 2012, after she found her young daughter unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs in a Woodstock home, off of Redbird Way. Beck stated she went to get a drink of water when she discovered the toddler. Her former boyfriend, Michael Naples, 31, was also at the residence when police arrived, and corroborated with her story.
Shortly after, the little girl was transported to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, but died from her injuries a few days later.
Meanwhile, lab results were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for analysis. This month, after completing testing on the toddler's cause of death, investigators determined that she died from " blunt force trauma to the head." The death is now ruled as a homicide.
