Cher, Ellie Goulding and One Direction are confirmed to make guest appearances on "The X Factor" in 2013.
On Oct. 3, 2013, ITV (the U.K. network for "The X Factor") announced that Cher and Goulding are scheduled to perform live on "The X Factor" U.K. Oct. 13, 2013.
In addition, ITV also announced that "The X Factor" U.K. in 2013 is introducing a Flash Vote format that will allow viewers to save a contestant from the bottom two. The Flash Vote format goes into effect on Oct. 12, 2013.
to The 'X Factor' will debut a new Flash Vote system on the first live show of the series on Saturday October 12, which will give viewers the chance to save their favorite contestant from the bottom two.
One of the contestants in the bottom two will be revealed at the end of the live episodes on Saturdays. Voting lines for the remaining contestants will then re-open until the live show on Sundays, when the second contestant who received the lowest number of votes will be revealed. The idea is to give any of the contestants who were in the bottom two on Saturday night a chance to get more votes by Sunday night.
Meanwhile, One Direction (the biggest-selling act to emerge from "The X Factor") is going to make appearances on "The X Factor" U.K. and "The X Factor" U.S. in November 2013 on dates to be announced.
"The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell told HitFix in an article published on Oct. 1, 2013: “They’re coming in to perform I think on the third or fourth live show, but that’s the only role they’ll play.”
As for how well "X Factor" viewers respond to One Direction in a way that might boost ratings, Cowell said: “They’re all One Direction fans and I don’t like the idea of databasing and all that kind of stuff, because I like people to make their own mind up. I communicate with them through Twitter and stuff like that. They know what we’re doing, but it’s always their choice.”
One Direction's third album, "Midnight Memories," is scheduled for release worldwide on Nov. 25, 2013. One Direction's first two albums ("Up All Night" and "Take Me Home") debuted at No. 1 in several countries, and "Midnight Memories" is expected to do the same.
Cher's album "Closer to the Truth" was released in September 2013. It's her first new studio album since 2001's "Living Proof." Goulding's second album, "Halcyon," was released in October 2012.
It's a tradition for "X Factor" alumni to return to perform on the show, especially if they have new music to promote.
