According to Cher, the Miley Cyrus VMA performance was "bad" and she didn't find any shock value to the young performer's antics. According to USA Today on Sept. 18, Cher said she isn't old-fashioned, but the performance just "wasn't done well."
While Miley Cyrus isn't the first performer to make a spectacle of herself at the VMA Awards, she has brought on a lot of scorn since the event. Madonna performed with a Crucifix while singing "Like a Virgin" and Lady Gaga has turned in numerous shocking performances over her career.
While both of those singers were discussed when it comes to the shock value of their performances, Cyrus was made the brunt of jokes and ridicule. Her performance involved tongue wagging, humping and grinding against Robin Thicke and twerking. Instead of people talking about shock value, many were laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.
Vogue magazine spoke with something harsher than words when they dumped her from their cover spot she was set for in their December issue. That appearance was supposed to help promote her upcoming album. Another possible fallout was the breakup of her engagement with Liam Hemsworth, which was announced this week.
As far as Cher, Miley Cyrus could have come out without any clothes on, and as long as she rocked the house, it would have been great. Cher then dropped the big bombs, saying that Cyrus "can't dance," her body looked "like hell," and her tongue was "coated" and should have stayed in her mouth.
