Cher is a musical legend. She is a pop icon with staying star power.
We all remember Bob Mackie as one of the most talented costume designers of all time creating outlandish outfits for celebrities such as Carol Burnett, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Liza Minnelli and of course, we can't ever forget the chic costumes that he designed for Cher.
Each week back in the late 60's/early 70's, Cher's wardrobe for 'The Sonny & Cher Show' astounded her audiences with a sense of fashion-forward style. That savvy style can be partly attributed to Bob Mackie.
Mackie's costumes were also a means of self-expression, a way to gain attention in a time of freedom and spirited imagination.
Now almost 50 years later from the time that the two met, this is a reunion like none other. Cher will embark on her 'Farewell Tour' and none other than the great Bob Mackie will dress her magnificently for old time's sake. With an insatiable appetite for attention, her costumes should be just as exciting as the show itself. Perhaps we will get our fill of feathers, sequins, studs, leather, rhinestones, ruffles and lace this time around.
It has been rumored that Mackie will be designing and creating 20 new outfits for the diva who is known for making quick changes throughout her performances, keeping her fans entertained.
In Mackie's own words he told WWD, "It's not like dressing a regular person - it's like dressing a crazy goddess. Sometimes she's an Egyptian goddess and sometimes she's a biker chic goddess."
Seems like Bob Mackie has had some lasting influence over the fashion trends as we travel through time. We see bits and pieces of his creativity on such celebrities as Sarah Jessica Parker who wore a headdress to the Met Gala this past May similar to the one he designed for Cher many years ago. We will be excited to see how Cher will surprise us on this final lap of her career not only with her music but with her unique and original costumes by the master of costume design, Bob Mackie.
