It’s Cher Week, in addition to the legendary performer’s guest judging position and “Dancing with the Stars” musical guest star Monday night. The seven remaining couples all danced to a Cher or Sonny & Cher iconic hit song. Cher opened the show with her gigantic hit “Believe,” complete with her own backup dancers, in addition to the show’s dance troupe. Midway into the program, after the first round of individual dances were complete, she performed her latest single “I Hope You Find It,” dressed in a trademark black feathered headgear.
The real action took place at the judges table with Cher giving interesting, if not technical, responses related to performances, costumes, and chemistry with the couples. At one point during Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Val Chmerkovskiy critique there was no sound coming from Cher for a few seconds. It was later realized she must have said something naughty for the producers to utilize their 10-second delay on this live broadcast. Season 13 alum Chaz Bono was spotted in the audience supporting his mom and the current cast.
Not surprising, the couple with the highest score, Amber Riley and Derek Hough, were exempt from the dance-off during the second half of the night. The couples winning their dance-offs gained an additional three points. Those winners were Leah and Tony, Corbin and Karina, and Jack and Cheryl (who we later found out was named after the guest judge and performer). Depending on how you look at it, Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd were sent home in a semi-shocking elimination. Brant was one of the top performers throughout the season. Unfortunately he’s not as well known or recognized as the remaining celebrities. He will be sorely missed.
