Local Afghan fancier Clarissa Skawski has a bright shining star in her family of dogs. Chenas, officially known as Canadian and United Kennel Club CH Simoon's Chenas of Brandylane RN CGC TDI, is a stunning 4 year old Afghan Hound. She is owned by Clarissa and co-owned with Jan Plank and Elizabeth Treharne.
This past weekend, Chenas finished her UKC conformation championship. She had an excellent show record in UKC, finishing in just four shows total! Her record includes two Sighthound and Pariah Group Ones plus another Best of Breed and a Best of Winners. All of this and she justed turned four years of age. Chenas also has her Canadian conformation championship and only needs two single points for her AKC championship.
But Chenas is much more than just a pretty face and a pretty body. As you can see from her name, Chenas has earned the first level rally title (RN or Rally Novice). She is also a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and certified with Therapy Dogs International (TDI). As a therapy dog, Chenas visits the Lutheran Home once a week to cheer up residents and brighten their day. Who wouldn't smile at a lovely Afghan Hound with that beautiful flowing coat?
Chenas is also a swinger - literally. She is part of the Mohawk Valley Dog Training Club (MVDTC)'s square dancing team and has done exhibitions of free style canine dancing to music. While she does not have a music video out yet, her puppy photos have been used for notecards for sale on the internet. She has also been featured in the national magazine for the Afghan Hound.
