Chelsea Clinton will walk down the aisle Saturday to the tune of $3 million to $5 million, according to wedding planner experts. Clinton is set to marry banker Marc Mezvinsky in Rhinebeck, New York at a top-secret affair July 31.
Gossip columnists have called the Clinton-Mezvinsky wedding, the Wedding of the Year and even the Decade. The highly anticipated affair is reportedly to be held at the Astor Courts Estate in upstate New York. Wedding gifts have been arriving at the scene during the last week.
"I don't think we've seen a wedding with this much attention since Patricia Nixon," Donnie Brown, a wedding planner on the Style Network, told the New York Daily News. "This will definitely be the biggest wedding of the year."
With a $3 million price tage and the expected 500 guests, it comes out to $6,000 a head. Bill and Hillary Clinton, however, have the money to spend. The Daily News reports they made $109 million from 2000 to 2007.
The air-conditioned tents with glass walls that have been seen on the lawn of Astor Courts reportedly cost $600,000. Security to protect the high-profile guests, rumored to include Oprah Winfrely, Barbra Streisand and Steven Spielberg, will run $200,000. Other lavish details include luxury portable toilets, high-end flowers, food, liqour and place settings.
At least one wedding planner has said Clinton's special invitations cost $150 each, and they don't even include the location of the wedding.
The average cost of an American wedding is $24,000, according to CBS. But for the Clintons' only daughter, average apparently won't suffice.
Chelsea Clinton spent her first 11 years in Arkansas and lived at the Governor's Mansion until 1992, when Bill Clinton was elected President.
