Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton, announced on Thursday that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are expecting their first child.

The baby news came at the conclusion of a Clinton Foundation No Ceilings project event in New York.

"I have one more thing to say very quickly, Chelsea Clinton said. “I just want to thank all of you for being such an inspiration to us and to me in particular. Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year. And I certainly feel all the better, whether it's a girl or a boy, that she or he will grow up in a world with so many strong, young female leaders,” according to Eonline.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said she was “really excited” about the prospect of becoming a grandmother and was at her daughter’s side when she made the announcement.

Later on Thursday, former President Bill Clinton tweeted, "Excited to add a new line to my Twitter bio...grandfather-to-be! @hillaryclinton and I are so happy for Chelsea and Marc!"

Although there was no mention of a due date or the sex of the unborn child, there is little doubt that the newborn Clinton will be a Democrat.
