Chefs' spotlight: Vic Rallo, Jr.

Vic Rallo, Jr., a native of New Jersey, is a bit of an overachiever. He has two successful restaurants under his belt: Basil T's Brewery and Italian Grill in Red Bank, N.J. and Undici Taverna Rustica in Rumson, N.J. Both restaurants have received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence several times.

Rallo also owns and operates Rallo Wines, an online purveyor of fine Italian wines geared toward the everyday consumer. He has published two books about wine (Napoleon Wasn't Exiled and 21 Wines) and has produced a series of videos on YouTube that profile (surprise, surprise) Italian winemakers. All of his hard work has paid off — upon discovery of his videos, PBS decided to give him his own television show, Eat! Drink! Italy!, which takes viewers on a journey to Italy to learn all about the country's food, drink, and culture. Says Rallo, "Italy courses through my veins. I want people to experience the magic of a country I have fallen in love with over and over again."

Rallo resides in Fair Haven, N.J. with his wife and three children. When he's not traveling for a shoot or catching up with his friends at his restaurants back home, he's hitting the waves down at the beach or taking in the view on his bike. Weather permitting, of course.
