Chefs José Andrés and Roy Yamaguchi to host Cherry Blossom Pink Tie Party

The annual Pink Tie Party is the kickoff to the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is held over a five week period from March 20 – April 27, 2012.  The Pink Tie Party takes place on Tuesday, March 20 from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. at the Mayflower Renaissance Washington, D.C. Hotel (1127 Connecticut Avenue, NW).

The 2012 National Cherry Blossom Festival is particularly important because it commemorates the 100th anniversary of the gift of cherry trees and the international friendship between the United States and Japan.  Expect even more pomp and pink than ever before.

Presented by Lincoln and supported by The Mayflower Renaissance, Macy’s and Capitol File Magazine, guests traditionally embrace the pink tie theme by sporting pink ties and spring time styles.

Renowned chefs José Andrés and Roy Yamaguchi, innovators in the culinary community, will host the events of the evening, exemplifying the international collaboration and creativity at the heart of the Festival.  Both are James Beard award-winning chefs and restaurateurs and bring with them their own distinct culinary styles.

Chef Andrés is an internationally-recognized innovator, advocate for food and hunger issues, author, television personality and chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup.  He has a growing restaurant empire, which includes Jaleo, a Spanish tapas restaurant with locations in Las Vegas, NV, Arlington, VA, Bethesda, MD, and Washington, D.C. From Barcelona, Spain, he is credited with introducing Americans to both avant-garde and traditional Spanish cooking.

Chef Roy Yamaguchi, born in Tokyo, Japan, took inspiration from his Hawaiian heritage and quickly became known for his trademark island-inspired cuisine and seafood with European sauces and bold Asian spices.  His signature restaurant, Roy’s, first opened in Honolulu in 1988 and has grown to include over 30 locations around the world.

Yamaguchi is also a television personality, cookbook author and advocate of culinary education and sustainable agriculture.  He is the host of the PBS-TV show “Hawaii Cooks with Roy Yamaguchi” and is a featured chef on Food Network’s “My Country, My Kitchen.”

The Pink Tie Party will feature spring and cherry-inspired cuisine and cocktails from the chef hosts and more than 35 of metro-D.C.’s top and rising-star chefs.  Participating restaurants include Ardeo+Bardeo, Art and Soul, Dino, Hudson Restaurant & Lounge, Lincoln, Marvin, Masa 14, Mie N Yu, Potenza Trattoria, RIS, Roy’s Baltimore and Zaytina, among many others.

A silent auction will contribute to the evening’s fundraising efforts, with everything from weekend getaways and sporting events to unique dining, concert and theater experiences.  Proceeds benefit the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, in support of its events and programs that are mostly free and open to the public.

Admission to the Pink Tie Party is $200 per person and tickets can be purchased online at nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/pinktie.
