The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a cheese recall on Nov. 26. Flat Creek Farm & Dairy’s Heavenly Blue Cheese and Aztec Sharp Cheese products were recalled by Georgia Department of Agriculture due to Salmonella concerns
A total of 200 pounds of cheese were recalled within the tested batch.
The Swainsboro, Ga. – based dairy farm's affected products in this recall were sold in Georgia and Florida including their online website; they were packed in clear plastic and sizes range from half pound to whole pound wheels.
During routine sampling – conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture – test results were confirmed to be potentially contaminated with salmonella bacterium.
Flat Creek is currently notifying their purchasers who may have any of the recalled batch, according to the FDA and Georgia Department of Agriculture.
No deaths or illnesses have been reported to date.
The following products and lot codes affected in this recall are as follows:
- Heavenly Blue with lot code, 130916XHB
- Aztec Cheddar with lot code, 130823XAZ
Consumers who may have any of the affected Flat Creek Farm & Dairy’s Heavenly Blue Cheese or Aztec Sharp Cheese products may return them back to the place where they were purchased or call their facility at 478-237-0123 between the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST.
