Cheering all the way

Ready! On a cool, crisp morning on January 11, 2013 fourteen young people from the Nimitz Junior High Cheer Squad traveled to the Convention Center in Dallas, Texas to compete for Nationals. One of the members, Stacie Notgrass stated ‘it was a lifetime experience.’

That experience would have never happened without the hard work the squad put in the months before the competition. To make the money that was needed to go on the trip they sold candy every day after school, which brought them between one and two thousand dollars. The rest raised was from the community and its support by giving donations so this squad could experience a dream they all wished for.

When the squad reached their destination to the convention center on Friday it was all about practice, practice, practice and getting ready to compete Saturday and Sunday. Nothing was going to stop them now. The hard work had paid off and now they were there to compete.

For two days they competed along with other schools trying to be the best of the best. After competition was all over and the scores were given, the squad was proud to come back to their hometown of Odessa, Texas and show off their trophies.

The Nimitz Junior High Cheer Squad placed 10th in their fight song and 11th in their routine. It took a lot of hard work to get there but this squad will never forget the achievement they did as a team.
