Central New York dogs Chaser (GCH Windsor Bihar Chasing Rainbows), a Lowchen, and Arrow (GCH Travler's Pierce Arrow IT), a Smooth Collie, will both compete in Monday, Feb. 13th's Westminster Kennel Club group judging. Judging begins at Madison Square Garden in New York City at 8 p.m. ET, with national television coverage airing in Syracuse on Time-Warner Cable channels 31 and 37. Tonight's order of judging is Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding groups.
Chaser is co-owned and co-bred by Albion's Peggy Cropsey, Windsor Bihar Lowchen, and the late Carol Strong, formerly of Cazenovia, east of Syracuse. In Monday's breed judging, Chaser bested two other Lowchen, including another Grand Champion (GCH). Lowchen show in the Non-Sporting group.
Arrow is co-owned and co-bred by sisters Becky Tehon and Candy Ardizzone, Candy's daughter Bree Ann Ardizonne, and Gary Lewis. Tehon and the Ardizzones breed Travler collies in Brewerton and Central Square, north of Syracuse, and Lewis lives east of Syracuse in Cazenovia. In Monday's breed judging, Arrow topped eight other dogs (four males, four females), including five other GCH-titled smooth collies. Smooth Collies show in the last group televised on Monday night, the Herding group.
Judging begins with breeds of the Hound group at 8 p.m. ET., and is televised live on USA Network from 8 - 9 p.m. ET. Coverage then continues on CNBC from 9 - 11 p.m. ET. Non-Sporting and Herding groups will be judged after the coverage switches to CNBC. For Syracuse and Onondaga county readers, USA Network is Time-Warner Cable ch. 31, and CNBC is Time-Warner Cable ch. 37.

Japanese Chin Roadie (Grand Champion Cin-Don On the Road Again), bred and owned by Beverly Merritt of Newfane in western New York, earned an Award of Merit, but that wasn't the Best of Breed (BOB) needed to get him into Monday night's Toy group judging.
Miniature Smooth Dachshund KO, (GCH/UKC Ch R'Hills Total Knockout RN CGC), bred and owned by Terri Frenia of Ripley Hill Dachshunds in Homer, N.Y., strutted brightly in a very strong group of Smooth Dachshunds, but lost out to black Standard Smooth Dachschund GCH Brownwood D'Geno Rock SS.
Junior handler Lizzy Brate is preparing with her Pointer, Chase (Ch Alydar Twice The Love), for her Tuesday appearance in the third of four Preliminary Classes of WKC Junior Showmanship competition. Brate's class begins at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Two preliminary classes of juniors were judged on Monday afternoon, and two additional classes will be judged on Tuesday. The judges select two finalists from each of the four preliminary classes, and the eight selected junior handlers will compete for Best Junior Handler on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. prior to Tuesday's televised group competion.
