Halloween is a frightfully fun time of the year and getting candy is a focal point of the holiday that most children look forward to most. However, not everyone is nice and—unfortunately—there are real monsters in the world that aim to hurt other people. Due to this fact, parents must be careful to check their children’s candy before they eat it.
As horrific as it is, there have been incidences in the past where mentally unhinged individuals have purposefully poisoned candy that they handed out to children or—in some of the most gruesome cases—embedded blades into the sweets. These appalling events have led to parents being far more wary about the candy that their children get and it is suggested that all wrappers be carefully examined before children are allowed to eat them.
There are some helpful tips about checking candy to make sure it’s safe; only eat candy that has a wrapper that does not appear to have been tampered with, don’t eat anything that looks homemade, and don’t eat anything that looks as if the wrapper has been printed from anywhere other than an official candy company. Adults are solely responsible of checking the candy of young children but older children can be taught to check their own candy and be mindful of the risks of gobbling down sweets without making sure they are safe.
Halloween is a fun time to celebrate all things spooky and scary but, as always, people still must be careful to avoid the truly dark and dangerous things in life.
