There’s a new hip place in town that’s worth checking out in May. The Chicago House might appear as just an ale house off Sixth Street, but just a push through a secret door and a walk through a tiny hall takes you into one of Austin’s newest hidden gems, Vinyl.
Don’t be surprised if you’re asked for a password to enter. There’s a real speakeasy vibe in there. It’s a cozy, little space with room for 100 max, perfect for when you want a few cocktails while you’re tucked away from the crowd. Thirteen thousand records cover an entire wall behind the DJ booth and a sexy neon sign that reads ‘Swallow’ in cursive glows red behind the bar. The red velvet curtains and dark lighting really help set the tone.
The kickoff to Vinyl’s new monthly events started last night with Vinyl League. Every first Thursday of the month, stop by to experience a collective of hip-hop enthusiasts who bring the best of the past, present, and future.
And there’s something for everyone of every night. When you have a case of the Mondays, head over for their Bottoms Up Happy Hour and linger till the evening for the weekly soul dance party, Motown on Mondays. Boogie down with residents DJ Digg, Spence, and DJ Chorizo Funk and special guests to all the Motown hits and classics.
But Vinyl isn’t limited to just music; they’ve teamed up with the Spratx family of artists to bring Art First, a new monthly celebration every First Friday of all things art, music, and community. Check out over 15 local artists’ work tonight for the kickoff party.
It doesn’t end there, though. They’ll bring the jazz every third Tuesday for their monthly Night Shift and at the end of the month don't miss the Sophistafunk party with the Austin Boogie Crew, funk collective specializing in music from the late 70’s and early 80’s. And from a 90s dance party every last Thursday of the month to the Glamorous Life every third Friday, there literally isn’t a night that isn’t popping off here.
Get ready for big things from Vinyl this year.
