Saint Patrick's Day isn't until Monday, March 17, but Central Iowa is starting the celebrations early—as early as Saturday. So if you are looking to celebrate the holiday with live music, food, green beverages, and other fun Irish-themed activities, here are some of your options.
The Gas Lamp in Des Moines will hold the first of two St. Pabst Day celebrations from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. outside in the street adjacent the venue. The event has a $10 cover, $20 if you add in all-you-can drink Pabst Blue Ribbon. Here is the schedule of live music performers:

6 p.m.: Ira Grace & The Bible Belt Prophets
7:30 p.m.: The Wheelers

The Hotel Pattee in Perry will host a pre-Saint Patty's day event at 6:30 p.m. with food, contests, and live music. They will be serving Irish Lamb Stew, Colcannon, Grilled Sausage with Onion and Fennel, Buttered Peas with Pearl Onions, Brown Soda Bread, and Mixed Greens Salad with 2 dressings, and they will have live music from the Heath Alan Band starting at 7:30 p.m. Activities will include Seanfhocal, Sea of Green contests, and the Not Quite Irish game. The food, live music, games, and contests (with prizes) are $40 per person or $75 per couple. There will also be a cash bar. For all those getting a room for the night, you can draw at check-in for a Luck of the Irish discount of 5% to 50%. Reservations may be made by calling the hotel at (515) 465-3511.
Whiskey Dixx will host their St. Patrick's Day Prelude Party starting at 10 a.m. The event will feature drink specials and live Irish music, and there is no cover charge to get in. Here are the bands scheduled:

Bennigan's on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines will drink specials, the Miller Lite Girls and live music from No Glory (5:30 to 8 p.m.) and Standing Hampton (9 p.m. to midnight).

Part 2 of Gas Lamp's St. Pabst Day celebration will from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. with live music in the street again. As with Saturday's event, cover is $10, $20 to include all-you-can drink PBR. Here is the music schedule:

At noon on Monday, the annual St. Patrick's Day parade will make its way through the Western Gateway and Downtown sections of Des Moines. The event is free and will feature music, floats, dancing, and more.
Traditional Irish band Kelly’s Clan and the Foy School of Irish Dance will perform at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a raffle ($10) to win a trip Ireland.
The Royal Mile in Downtown Des Moines will offer corned beef & cabbage and bagpipe music starting at 1 p.m. There will be no cover.
Whiskey Dixx St. Patrick's Day Party starts at 7 a.m. The bar will offer $5 bowls of Corned Beef Scramble for breakfast and $5 bowls of Irish Stew for lunch, as well as drink specials all day long. The event has no cover. Here is the live music schedule for the day:

Mickey's Irish Pub in Clive will kick off their St. Patrick's Day tent Party at 6 a.m. with Green Eggs & Ham and Corned Beef & Cabbage. At 11 a.m., they will have a Happy Hour with free food. There will be a $5 cover charge after 3 p.m. Here is the event's entertainment schedule:

Sully's Irish Pub and ALT 1063 AM will host a heated tent party at Sully's in West Des Moines starting with Green Eggs & Ham at 6 a.m. There will be a Happy Hour with bagpipers at 3 p.m. Hy-Vee will provide food throughout the day, and Red Bull will provide a bar. The event has no cover.
Limey's Pub & Grub will start their festivities early with a breakfast buffet at 8 a.m. They will have Guiness and green beer all day and bagpipers at 6 p.m. This event has no cover.
Mickey's Irish Pub in Downtown Des Moines will have a three-day street party with DJs, live music, green beer, games, and their First Annual St. Patrick’s Day Hot Dog Eating Contest. Bands that have been announced so far include Lesson 7, It’s Complicated, Decoy, and headliner Pop Rocks. For a preview of the event, check out the embedded video. Tickets are $10 to $15.
Mickey's in Waukee will have a four-day party to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. On Friday night they kick things off with Karaoke (with prizes), drink specials, and a photo booth. On Saturday, the pub will kick things off at noon and will have live music from the Cellar Dwellers Band at 9 p.m. Sunday, there will be a breakfast buffet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and kid's craft activities. After breakfast there will be $1 off all bar drinks. Finally on Monday, there will be breakfast at 7 a.m., bagpipe and drum music at 10:30 a.m., braised corned beef later in the day, and live music from Brad Seidenfeld (3-6 p.m.) and Abby Normal (7-11 p.m.).
