New close-ups of the long-awaited NFC toys have surfaced on the web today. Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that they will release a variety of NFC toys bearing the name amiibo. Over 30 amiibo toys are expected to be released before the end of the year, and the anticipation has the internet hyped up. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is going to be the first game to support amiibo with more games to follow suit in the near future. Some of the toys that will be available at launch include Mario, Link, Zelda, Samus, Yoshi, and more.
With games like Skylanders and Disney Infinity making big bucks, NFC figures and other smart toy variants are clearly rising dramatically in popularity. With Nintendo jumping into the market with their expertise in entertainment, I think Nintendo has truly hit the nail on the head with this business decision. They have the opportunity to overtake Activision when it comes to NFC toy market. One of the best things that Nintendo is doing with amiibo is that they'll carry over from one generation to the next. This means that when the life cycle for the Wii U is over, you'll be able to use your same amiibo figures for the next Nintendo console that's out at the time.
As you can see by the close-ups, these amiibo figures are beautiful and well-crafted. Sadly, we only get to see 13 of them for now, but we'll surely see more of these figures in the next few months. Nintendo surely has some unique ideas for amiibo, and we're all eager to see what comes next.
