The New York State'Fair is conveniently located for us - right down the Thruway in Syracuse! When you plan your trip to the Fair this year, be sure to check out the State Dog 4-H competitions and cheer on our local 4-Hers.
Starting at 8 am on Wednesday, September 1 will be the Obedience and Agility classes in the Coliseum. Also on that day is the very popular Drill Team Competition where teams of 4-Hers and their dogs perform to music. With the Coliseum as the site, you know you will be comfortable no matter what the weather is. Plus, the show is free!
Then on Thursday, the competition shifts to the Youth Arena Pole Barn with Grooming and Handling along with Rally starting at 9 am. Again, a comfortable site for spectators and no fee to watch.
The Oneida County Dog 4-Hers were chosen for the State competition through the Boonville Fair. We have a large number of teams who qualified in Obedience. From Graduate Beginners B, Brittany Papa along with Ryan Thomas earned top honors. In Novice A, Kaitlyn Thomas and Sarah Papa will show for Oneida.
Brace Class will be filled by Sarah Papa and Oneida County has a Four Person Team competing as well! For Grooming and Handling we have 4-Hers in both A and B levels. At the A level, Esther Mazor, Amanda Siegel and Brittany Spear will represent our county. At the B level , we had seven 4-Hers at the Excellent level - Brittany and Sarah Papa, Marlene Pilbeam, Megan Sexton, Rachel Siegel, and Ryan and Kaitlyn Thomas.
Oneida County's 4-H program is under Cornell's Cooperative Extension. If you are interested in being an adult volunteer or have a child who would enjoy dog 4-H, contact our local office.
While at the Fair, also check out the 4-H Youth Building - there are lots of great exhibits including a Cynology (study of the dog) booth and many contest results.
