Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) has submitted the 2012 Master Development Plan (MDP) to the US Forest Service (USFS) for review and acceptance.
The MDP provides a vision for the future of CBMR and incorporates previous approvals at the Main Mountain along with adjacent private land development projects, new recreational use concepts for the Teo Park, Teo Drainage expansion area and Snodgrass Mountain, culminating in a comprehensive plan for a balanced, cohesive resort.
With the ultimate goal of creating a year-round recreational experience that is appealing to guests of all ability levels, CBMR has developed its Master Development Plan to attract and retain destination visitors for longer durations and provide additional terrain variety. The MDP is a five- to ten-year plan that is designed to act as a guide for future developments at the resort.
“The 2012 MDP provides CBMR’s vision for the use of public lands and will assist the Forest Service to plan for anticipated future uses," says John Sale, director of planning and sustainability for CBMR. "The plan will also provide local governments, agencies and the public with information about near- and long-term plans for CBMR. Acceptance of the MDP by the Forest Service will enhance opportunities for a sustainable tourist economy for CBMR and the entire Gunnison Valley throughout the next decade.”
CBMR Master Development Plan Highlights
- Provides a thorough assessment of existing operations and facilities at the main mountain
- Summarizes previously approved projects at the main mountain
- Outlines a plan for future terrain expansion concepts in the Teo Drainage area, which would include 440 acres of additional lift-accessed terrain on the main mountain. The additional terrain would consist of both developed and undeveloped skiable acres
- Provides concepts for winter and summer low-impact activities on Snodgrass Mountain
- Continues to plan and develop summer mountain biking and hiking programs as well as other outdoor activities for increased use and enjoyment as a summer tourist destination. On-mountain trail expansions would consist of approximately 20 additional miles of single-track for mountain biking and five miles designated for hiking
- Comprehensively plans the year-round operational and recreational functionality of CBMR, accounting for all existing previously approved upgrading projects on the main mountain
