"Though he is most widely known for his stint as loving dad Dr. Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984-1992), he has had an extensive career as a comedian, writer, and producer as well. Before The Cosby Show, when he was attending Temple University on a track scholarship, Bill Cosby began doing stand-up at a local coffeehouse where he worked as a bartender. He soon started performing at a comedy club in New York City and he began to develop his style of telling general stories that play on the quirks and predicaments of every-day situations. After landing a spot on The Tonight Show, Cosby got a record contract and made his first comedy album Bill Cosby is a Very Funny Fellow…Right! For his next album, I Started Out as a Child, he won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Performance and he continued to produce many more successful albums after that, and subsequently winning five more Grammys."
