Check into spring: gingham goes business casual

Without a doubt, the concept of spring in Minnesota feels like a bit like Shangri-La - an much-rumored, heavenly place which likely doesn't exist. The snow melts. The snow falls. Then it falls some more. Sound familiar?

What's a stylish Minnesotan to do?

Over here at Minneapolis Men's Style, we're all about the positive thinking (it might be the vitamin D we started taking...), and we think that starts with what you're wearing. Don't worry! It's not a matter of sacrificing warmth for style. We just think it's time to add a little spring into your step ... and your wardrobe.

Enter one of our favorite patterns: gingham.

Gingham is a small-checked pattern that's related to the plaid family. It's typically made of cotton, and is relatively inexpensive. Because its light-weight, breathes well, and often incorporates white as one of the primary colors - it's got a rep for being a distinctly casual, spring/summer kind of a cloth.

But lately, gingham's been making it's mark on the office as well. With slim, sharply cut dress shirts in a variety of colors from a more traditional light blue to the brighter pops of purple and yellow - a gingham dress shirt is totally appropriate for the work world. If you need to be business casual, anchor it with a dark, solid tie that has some texture to it - we like a narrower, repp tie. Need a new Friday night look? Pair this shirt with a cardigan and slim, straight jeans (tie optional).

We'll cut you a deal - mix a gingham shirt into your wardrobe, and we promise to check out.
