The crisp air has arrived in Kentuckiana and that means it is time for all the great fall activities. Nothing beats a fall day outside enjoying nature. We are so lucky to have so many parks around to take our little ones to entertain them but for a change of pace from the playground check out some other fun cheap areas to explore.

Bernheim Forest is just a short drive down I-65. The hiking trails, nature center, ponds, and flowers will be sure to keep your family entertained. What makes this an even better place to visit is that during the week admission is free and on the weekend it is just $5.00 a car load. So pack a picnic lunch and make a day out of it. You can get directions and info on the forest at http://www.bernheim.org

Don't want to leave Louisville? Then check out Jefferson Memorial Forest off the Gene Snyder Freeway. Jefferson Memorial is always free to get in. Check out the welcome center to get your trail maps and check for programs. They also offer some free activities for families. You can get directions and info at http://www.memorialforest.com

Don't forget to check out local farms and farmers markets. Pumpkin and apple picking are great fun and you only have to pay for what you buy. So if you just go to explore and don't pick anything you have another free trip. It is also a good way to get some grocery shopping done without having screaming kids and a cart that is wobbly.

Also don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for local fall festivals and trunk or treats. A great way to keep the kids busy.  Fall festivals usually benefit something in the community like a school or church so then you can feel good for helping out others. Trunk or treats are usually a free community events and the kids will get to wear those Halloween costumes more then once, but they will end up with a lot of candy so be careful not to hit to many.

Hopefully this are some great cheap, fun things that you find useful and will enjoy at least one with  your family this fall. Just remember it is the time you spend together that make the memories that last so enjoy every moment you spend together. Happy Fall Y'all!
