Line & Lariat, the restaurant in the Hotel Icon, is offering 50% off their wines during dinner on Saturdays. This is quite a deal. Even if limited to the wines under $200, it encompasses nearly all of the list. Their wine prices might be a little high, but not egregiously so, and there are two dozen wines that are regularly priced at under $50. At half off, there are plenty of choices to enjoyably complement the meal.
The restaurant offers what might be called New American cuisine with a Houston and Texas twist, meaning plenty of flavors from Mexico. Befitting a hotel setting, its choices are readily accessible – several steaks, of course – but interesting. Chile Braised Smoke Pork Chops, Texas Jalapeño Tuna Tartar and Roasted Venison Chop served with a black currant demiglace and braised cabbage and pureed potatoes, are a few of the menu options. Prices in the evening range from $12 to $35 with the average about $23, less than other restaurants with similarly attractive settings.
If further encouragement is needed to venture downtown at night, there are now more than a few bars of interest with a half-block of Line & Lariat’s doors for that pre- or post-dinner cocktail.
