TV personality Chaz Bono is healthier and happier than ever after losing 85 pounds during the past 12 months. The 5-foot-6 Bono, who slimmed down from 250 pounds to 165, says his amazing weight loss has dramatically improved every aspect of his life.
"I just feel much more comfortable in my skin," Bono said on The Doctors. "Everything is easier. Everything physically is easier, everything feels better, and emotionally I just feel more comfortable, more confident."
Bono, 44, not only looks fitter, but he sleeps better at night and is more emotionally centered. "I was really stressed [last year when I was heavy]," said the LGBT activist. "I used to wake up all through the night. Now I don't get up at all. I feel much better."
Bono follows a low-carb, gluten-free, sugar-free, no-diary diet and works out almost every day. Chaz, the son of singer Cher and the late Sonny Bono, began his weight-loss journey in November 2012.
Surprisingly, overhauling his dietary habits was easier than he thought it would be. Bono, who has been heavy all his life, says he no longer has constant cravings for processed, unhealthy foods. "I'm so much more conscious about what I eat, and it's not that difficult," he said.
Chaz, who underwent female-to-male gender transition from 2008 to 2010, decided to overhaul his diet last year because he got sick and tired of being fat.
"I've struggled with weight my whole life," said Bono, who competed on season 13 of Dancing With the Stars.
"For me, it was finally getting to a place where I was willing to do whatever it took to deal with this. When you get to that point, then whatever way you choose to do it, it's going to work. I'm willing to never eat the things I like again."
